Still waiting for an apology…..

The biggest malfeasance committed by the state against the people of New Zealand was during the term of the Lange Labour Government with the introduction of neo-liberalism and the wholesale sell-off of the assets of the people, the removal of the Trade Union movement and the use of red tape to stifle and repress. Remember the 1980’s? The 1990's? The new millenium? Its been 40 years since the state abandoned the working classes and promoted a class of state servant and a type of infrastructural improvement that was beyond reproach or scrutiny.

Clearly the entire nation needs an apology for the destruction which successive Governments have waged against us all since those fateful days in 1984.

And even now, the State seems hell-bent in doing everything wrong, back to front, upside down and inside out. A ruling elite, completely out of synch, empowered by technology now masquerade as “us” in the most repressive and stifling and censorious ways to ensure their grip on power.

Having a Labour Govt apologise for the anti-polynesian dawn raids of the late 70’s era is simple dog-whistle politics to an electorate already well within the shadow of Labour Party. It was Muldoon that did the raids not Labour.

Where’s the apology to the entire nation for the spin, lies and BS of Rogernomics and “the trickle down” effect we as a nation was sold as being the path to our economic salvation in the Global village? The thousands of workers made redundant in the MOW and Railways and in the all the other state sector jobs which were productive and meaningful. Where’s the apology for the wholesale fire sale of state housing, the partial privatisation of our Universities, the “cost recovery” of “user pays” that swept through all aspects of our lives with extra taxations and huge compliance costs.

Like I said, I’m still waiting for any NZ Govt to acknowledge the biggest pink elephant in the room. If they can apologise for the dawn raids why can’t they apologise for the failed economic experiment that continues on still till this day.
